TDG Technology Business Development Internship Program
UCLA’s Technology Development Group (TDG) is launching a new, volunteer internship program starting this Winter Quarter 2026 for UCLA undergraduate and graduate students interested in gaining first-hand experience in the world of technology transfer, business development, and intellectual property commercialization.
Interns work with TDG Business Development or UCLA Ventures staff on a part-time basis. This is a remote, unpaid opportunity with an estimated commitment of 8-10 hours per week. Participation in the internship program is a unique educational experience that gives students the opportunity to contribute to the commercialization of UCLA technologies.
Eligibility:
The TDG Technology Business Development Internship Program is highly competitive and open to all UCLA undergraduate and graduate students. We particularly encourage applications from students in the life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, chemistry, computer science, and business. Candidates are expected to commit up to 10 hours per week to the program, with most assignments being completed remotely.
Selection Criteria:
Candidates are evaluated against the following criteria:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in scientific fields outside of one’s particular area of expertise
• Enthusiasm and willingness to take on new challenges
• Demonstrated interest in technology transfer, intellectual property & marketing
• Strong technical backgrounds in the biological sciences, physical sciences or engineering
• Previous experience with UCLA incubators or similar groups is not needed, but is a plus
• Commitment and availability for 8 to 10 hours per week (for a minimum of two quarters)
Tasks of Technology BD interns will include, but are not limited to:
• Drafting of non-confidential descriptions (NCDs) for UCLA technologies
• Compilation of company lists for marketing campaigns
• Market research report, startup competitive analysis, and pitch deck drafting
• Data entry into CRM software
• Assistance with conferences and events
• Marketing collateral drafting and revision
• Miscellaneous administrative tasks (recruitment, task management, etc.)
Tasks of UCLA Ventures interns will include, but are not limited to:
• Support founder and portfolio engagement across UCLA Ventures programs
• Track and summarize startup milestones (e.g., fundraising, launches, awards)
• Conduct company- and founder-level research on UCLA-affiliated startups
• Maintain internal founder and portfolio trackers
• Draft internal summaries and program communications
• Coordinate with founders, mentors, and external partners.
