Josh Green

Josh Green is a double Bruin (BA ’77 and JD ’80) who arrived in Silicon Valley over 45 years ago and served as a leading lawyer, venture capitalist and entrepreneur during that time. He worked closely with some of the Valley’s most successful entrepreneurs and companies, as well as completed many transactions are among the largest in Silicon Valley history. Josh estimates that he has led the IPO process for over 100 companies, completed more than 1000 venture financings and counseled or sat on the Board of Directors of over 300 venture-backed startup companies.  Josh was instrumental in building two leading Silicon Valley law firms, Venture Law Group and the Palo Alto office of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison and was named one of the top 45 lawyers under 45 years old by American Lawyer Magazine in 1995.   He was also placed on the Forbes Midas List of dealmakers in 2005. 

Josh later became a general partner at Mohr Davidow Ventures, a venture capital fund with approximately $2B AUM during his tenure at the firm from 2006 to 2019, and was Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association.  Then, he became an executive and General Counsel at Carbon, Inc., a 3D printing company. Most recently, he is a lecturer at the UCLA Law School on the Silicon Valley entrepreneurial ecosystem. 

Over multiple decades, Josh has been deeply engaged in efforts to enhance the connection between the university and the commercial innovation ecosystem.  Beginning in 1999, Josh co-founded UCLA Ventures, and then was appointed to the President’s Innovation Council for the entire UC system.  In 2014, Josh participated in a working group that led to the formation of the present Technology Development Group at UCLA and currently serves on its Board of Directors.  He was also appointed to an ad hoc committee of the UC Board of Regents in 2020 which resulted in many important measures  to further innovation in the UC system, and Josh currently serves on the President’s Entrepreneurship Council. 

Josh graduated magna cum laude from UCLA and from the UCLA School of Law where he was on the Law Review.  He was the UCLA undergraduate commencement speaker in 2001. Josh also serves on the Advisory Boards of the UCLA Law School Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law & Policy and the Stanford Law School Rock Center for Corporate Governance.
