The European Patent System: The Path Forward in a Changing Landscape

-

UCLA TDG and the UCLA School of Law are pleased to host the European Patent System: The Path Forward in a Changing Landscape event on Wednesday, October 3.

The event will be held in the Sequoia Room of the UCLA Faculty Center at 10:00am and will be followed by lunch, sponsored by Gates & Cooper LLP.

The panel features John Cabeca, Director of the Silicon Valley United States Patent & Trademark Office and Andreas Gröger, Examiner Directorate, European Patent Office.

The following areas will be highlighted:

  • The EPO’s role in examining and granting patent applications, oppositions and appeals.  The national courts’ roles in patent enforcement.
  • The European Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court.  What are they and how will they change the patent system in Europe?  Will their entry into force be affected by the constitutional challenge in Germany and Brexit?
  • Comparison of inventorship and ownership in Europe and the US in the university and private sectors.
